We are delighted to announce that the Ardrossan section of the Ayrshire Coastal Path — following the original route between Ardrossan Marina and Ardrossan North Beach — has now re-opened in full after many months of closure.
A short diversion had been in place while contractors working for North Ayrshire Council (NAC) carried out essential works on the North Shore Development project at the former Shell site. Those works included upgrading the sea-wall/revetment, constructing a 4 metre wide multi-user path running for approximately 2 km from Mariners View to Montfode Roundabout, and erecting upgraded infrastructure for walkers, cyclists and the wider community.
Thanks to the investment led by NAC in partnership with organisations including Sustrans and support from the Scottish Government, this stretch of the Ayrshire Coastal Path has now been transformed, now providing a much more scenic and safer experience for everyone.
The Ayrshire Coastal Path is extremely grateful to North Ayrshire Council and partners for delivering this much-needed upgrade. We hope walkers, cyclists and everyone using the path will enjoy this beautiful, refreshed coastal route for many years to come. Please note that we will be updating Ayrshire Coastal Path signage shortly. In the meantime, you may still notice our temporary arrow stickers on lampposts diverting walkers along Montgomerie Street. Walkers are very welcome to instead turn left onto the newly opened coastal path for the more scenic option.
