Heavy summer growth

Tim, Jim, Kevin, Tom, and Martin - the Fab Five - did a fantastic job last Thursday with four/five hours spent in hard labour struggling to strim and mow the tall bracken and heavy grass along the cliff-top path from Currarie port to Langdale. What a difference their effort has made to clearly defining the route.

The big lesson learned the hard way here is that after our path survey - when the growth was very light - and we recommended a cut in 3-4 weeks when the mower could have handled it easily - we were not able to do the job till 6-8 weeks later - when heavy growth was almost overwhelming the equipment  - and the workers!.

We've been seriously hampered in our strimming programme this year by the necessity to erect six new gates this spring and summer for the safety of animal stock - and walkers - and while we have now hacked and bashed our way through most of big problem areas and opened them up for summer walkers, several areas still remain to be cut asap. We would welcome any new Pathminders to join our happy band. info@ayrshirecoastalpath.org
