Tides

At several points on the South Section – which are highlighted on both Maps and Brochures - trips should be timed carefully to avoid being trapped for 1-4 hours by rising tides on several days around the period of High Spring Tides, (which occur every two weeks at the times of the New and Full Moons). Simple and careful planning will avoid stupid and unnecessary delays. Packing a pair of plimsolls would allow easy wading.

Great care must be taken to check the tide tables for Ayr. More details are available in the Guide Book.

N.B. Daytime Spring Tides are much higher in late Autumn and Winter than during Summer months.
