Linking Paths

While not part of the official Path, there are several optional detours, which are highly recommended - to The Robert Burns National Heritage Park, Dundonald Castle (birthplace of the Stuart Dynasty), and Kilwinning Abbey; and also several local farm hill paths for the more energetic walker that provide wonderful panoramas of the Firth of Clyde.

The Ayrshire Coastal Path links with The River Ayr Way, which has recently been completed from Glenbuck to Ayr - and will complement the inland Carrick Way being formed in the Girvan hinterland. The Arran ferry gives walkers access to The Arran Coastal Way.

The Path has now been extended southwards to Stranraer by the Lochryan Coastal Path which connects it to the The Southern Upland Way. In addition, discussions have taken place with the management of Clyde Muirshiel Park on an extension northwards over the Renfrewshire hills to The West Highland Way.
